THE LATEST THRILLER

The Perfect Lie Book Cover.jpg

1989.

Claire is 16 years old and has the whole world at her feet – she’s beautiful, intelligent, and is about to be inducted into the elite girls’ club – the Queen Bees. The only thing she has to do first is pass the challenge set by Queen Bee herself, Charlotte, which is to go out on a date with the school nerd, Paul.

Easy. One date and she’s in.

But what happens with Paul afterwards will change Claire’s world forever and she knows she’ll have to live with the consequences for the rest of her life.

Paul Jones was a relatively happy teenager until the bullying started but he knows he needs to ignore it and focus on his studies if he wants to fulfil his life-long dream of becoming a doctor. When he falls head over heels for one of the popular girls, and he thinks she might even like him in return, he starts to believe things at school will improve. But then the unthinkable happens and Paul knows his dreams are over.

2017.

Claire’s life is, on the surface, perfect. Her law career, her beautiful home, her marriage to Chris Carmichael, and her sons, 17-year-old Joshua and his five-year-old brother Jamie. When Jamie starts school, Claire moves from part-time to full time hours taking on more complex cases. Her first client is a 19-year old girl who has been raped. As the case develops and she is reminded of an incident she would rather forget, Claire finds her perfect life starting to unravel. As everything falls apart, Claire realises she’s being hunted, and as her present and past collide, not even she can imagine the horrific aftermath.

Wow, the opening pages if this book pulled me in immediately and didn't let go until the very last page. This is a fast paced psychological thriller that kept me reading into the early morning hours because I simply could not put it down. It is good through alternative point if views and from the present day to back in the late 1980s. I I found the characters well developed and very relatable and found myself really enjoying each of them. I thought the dual plot line to be original and well thought out and i thought it worked really well with the story. This one has me guessing until the very last page and I have to say the ending caught me completely off guard. This story was gripping, chilling and thrilling. I absolutely loved it.

This is a chilling tale, told from the alternate timelines of present day, and Claire's time at school in the late 1980s. An extremely well-contrived dual plot line that meshes perfectly, and had me guessing until the very end, this is one that will linger long after the final page has been turned.
